The SCALEXIO Processing Unit is based on an industrial PC with either an Intel XEON E5 octa-core processor or an Intel XEON E3 quad-core processor, a real-time operating system (RTOS), and a PCIe plug-on card developed by dSPACE for communication with the I/O and with other real-time processors. Because the processor and motherboard components are standard components, they can be updated regularly to benefit from performance improvements in processor technology. To ensure communication between the real-time application running on the processor and the I/O, dSPACE offers the SCALEXIO Real-Time Library, which is based on the QNX® real-time operating system.
